The flagship Diliman campus of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) recently opened the first smart classroom in the country courtesy of a P10-million grant by Korean technology titan Samsung.
Top executives of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Samsung Philippines inaugurated the smart classroom located in the main building of the country?s premier science high school, which is also known by its moniker ?Pisay?.
Patterned after the smart classroom model in other countries, the smart classroom in PSHS is equipped with some of its latest innovations in hardware and software, including Android tablets and interactive displays.
The Samsung smart classroom also features:
? Wireless environment
? Server, device storage, and charging stations
? 36 notebook PCs and 30 tablets for teachers and students
? Video walls for projecting, sharing, and mirroring content
? Touchscreen display within a whiteboard
? Samsung Smart School Solution for interactive class management
? Teacher training by Samsung
In 2011, Samsung teamed up with La Salle Green Hills (LSGH) in Mandaluyong City in launching the Pearl Project in which Samsung tablets were employed as a Personal Learning Device for digitized curriculum materials.
The same year also saw the company?s refortified partnership with Don Bosco Technical College wherein Samsung donated LED HDTVs and air conditioning units for the school?s technical laboratory. In 2013,
Samsung tablets, loaded with e-books, were provided to parochial schools Pasig Catholic College (PCC) and San Isidro Catholic School (SICS) in replacement of traditional textbooks.
