In coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and in partnership with various local government units (LGUs), Bayan revealed that its successful campaign has resulted in the filing of over a dozen criminal cases and the conviction of six cable thieves in Metro Manila for the first quarter of 2014 alone.

This is in addition to the 69 convictions it has achieved nationwide for the period 2010 to 2013.

Bayan?s enhanced effort to run after cable thieves is aimed at ensuring continuous service and preventing service disruption among its customers especially those who rely on their telephone and data lines for business and livelihood.

The company said cable disruptions also deprive customers of the use of their landlines especially during emergency, such as when customers need to call the police, fire department, or the hospital.

In the coming weeks, Bayan said it expects more convictions as 16 other suspects have been arrested and are currently charged in various courts nationwide.

Bayan is closely coordinating with the PNP and the different partner LGUs to identify and arrest cable thieves in its key service areas in Metro Manila, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and in Mindanao.
