EMC Philippines country manager Ronnie Latinazo said the latest products and services in its data protection portfolio are geared to maintain protection during a company’s transition to next-generation environments, particularly into the so-called “third IT platform” comprising of mobile, cloud, Big Data and analytics, and social.

Before the emergence of this new platform, the IT world first adopted the mainframe model and then followed by personal computers or PCs.

Latinazo explained that in the software-defined environments, infrastructure is virtualized and delivered as a service and therefore data protection strategies and technologies must likewise evolve to a service-based delivery model.

Latinazo said DPaaS is a $6-billion global market and EMC sees a significant opportunity in the local IT industry.

PK Gupta, senior director and chief architect of EMC’s backup recovery systems practice in Asia-Pacific and Japan, said “everything is now becoming software-defined as many companies are moving from the second platform to the third IT platform.”

Citing EMC’s study about the ?Digital Universe,? Gupta said data size will bring a huge challenge to enterprises and organizations as the amount of information will reach 40 zettabytes on year 2020, an increase of 50 percent starting in year 2010.

Gupta said the new EMC solutions include an enhanced Data Protection Suite, new Data Domain operating system, and new software releases from its EMC VPLEX and RecoverPoint product lines.

The VPLEX is EMC’s virtual appliance or computer data storage software that brings continuous availability and data mobility to VMware-centric mid-tier organizations.

Compared to other vendors, Gupta said EMC’s data protection solutions cover the full range of customers’ data protection needs — from archive to continuous availability for physical, virtual, and cloud environments.

All product suites are generally available at the start of the second quarter of 2014.
