Cloud platform for mobile app dev’t rolled out in PH

By Tom Noda

Tech firm Progress Software recently rolled out in the Philippines its latest platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution made to enable faster development of enterprise-class mobile applications.

Stephen McNulty, managing director of Progress Software in Asia-Pacific and Japan, said the company’s new PaaS solution, called Progress Pacific, has rapid application development (RAD) capabilities and other features that make it faster than traditional app development methods.

The RAD component of Progress Pacific, dubbed Progress Rollbase, allows for easy creation of customized mobile and desktop apps from a unified platform using point-and-click, drag-and-drop tools with minimal coding.

McNulty said that since Progress Rollbase feature works within a Web browser and using visual tools, developers can build apps with more clicks than keyboard taps or writing of codes.

Other benefits of the Pacific platform include enabling real-time data access; empowering users to create and share reports; operate independently like in any place, platform or device; and even help translate ideas into business logic.

Progress Pacific is a result of Progress Software’s acquisition of software vendor Rollbase Incorporated last year to address market demands.

McNulty introduced the new solution with the local media together with Rollbase Philippines president Jeff Sia.

McNulty said Progress Software will be offering the Pacific platform not only to established businesses in the Philippines but also to startups, citizen developers, and even hobbyists.
