The Department of Education (DepEd) has launched a Web-based Library Locator Map, which shows all school libraries in public elementary and secondary schools, including library hubs nationwide.

DepEd secretary Armin Luistro said that knowing where to locate the library would ?help every child to foster love for reading.?

The agency has 9,855 registered public schools with libraries. Out of these DepEd school libraries, almost 9,000 have already been mapped. There are 188 library hubs in divisions nationwide.

Hosted by CartoDB, the library locator map is an online map viewing tool that aims to help in understanding the national and local locations of reading centers and also in capturing the learning venues where people can find their way to reading resources.

?Reading enriches the soul. Every child has a story bursting in his or her heart. The problem is, it?s never been written; it?s never published, because no one dares to listen,? said Luistro.

Luistro added that he envisioned a Philippines where every elementary and high school graduate would be able to write their stories.

?Our libraries? goal is to help every graduate to write his or her own story, a story that is welling up in his or his heart.?

To improve the data and information on the school library map, the department said the the public to send their feedback to action@deped.gov.ph.
