IBM ties up with Ateneo to establish S&T competency center

The local office of tech colossus IBM has signed an agreement with Ateneo de Manila University to ?embark on a collaboration to establish Science and Technology and Analytics competency through Research and Development?.

In a news item published at the Ateneo website, the contracting parties said they signed the memorandum of understanding last July 8.

The agreement aims to combine the technological strengths of IBM with Ateneo?s ongoing and planned scientific research programs and faculty. Under the deal, the two institutions will work on R&D initiatives including:

? High Performance Computing (HPC) research and education
? Big Data and business analytics research and education
? Weather and climate prediction and stimulation
? Computational chemistry and bioinformatics research
? Disaster and emergency management
? Mobile and remote sensing application

Ateneo is one of the Academic Initiative (AI) partner universities of IBM. The R&D collaboration is foreseen to further strengthen the ties between the institutions as they aim to come up with breakthrough projects that will solve relevant scientific and socio-economic challenges in the country.
