Although not considered a software suite, the application brings together solutions including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Nurse Learning Management, and Office 365, among others, running on HP tablets, Microsoft said.

Callum Bir, Microsoft Asia-Pacific director for health, said the application is ?the first in the world? for Microsoft, noting that one of the reasons for the development of the application is high number of nurses in the Philippine health sector.

?Health is one of the key focus areas of Microsoft. We aim to create a real impact for better health with our mobility and cloud solutions to healthcare providers, payers, and governments,? Bir said.

The executive said Microsoft has been in talks with numerous health organizations in the Philippines including hospitals, professional organizations, and the government?s PhilHealth for the possible use of the ?Nurse Mobility? application.

Microsoft said the solution will allow nurses ?to be more productive as care teams, anytime, anywhere, resulting in better health outcomes for patients.?

One of the advantages of the solution is it will help reduce paperwork and streamline the whole process of healthcare for patients.

With tablets and the onboard solution, Microsoft said Filipino nurses can spend less time on manually checking for records. The nurses can also do the initial analysis of these records using the solutions, before the records are given to doctors and specialists for further analysis.

The deployment of the application will be a first for Microsoft and there are plans to deploy the solution elsewhere in the globe.

Bir said Microsoft is deploying the solution in the Philippines first, and if gets a positive feedback from the market, then there is a possibility that the solution will also be deployed in other countries.
