St. Jude Catholic School?s Adrian Reginald Sy, who won the country?s third silver medal in the 55th IMO held at Cape Town, South Africa in July last year, once again proved his prowess over 19 other finalists in the national tilt. He brought home P20,000 cash prize, a medal and gifts from Sharp Calculators.

Sy was followed by fellow IMO bets Farrell Eldrian Wu of MGC New Life Christian Academy and Kyle Patrick Dulay of Philippine Science High School ? Main Campus, who won 1st and 2nd runner-ups, respectively.

Both Wu and Dulay took home bronze medals in the IMO as well. Wu received P15,000 cash prize while Dulay got P10,000 along with medals and gifts from Sharp Calculators.

They were awarded in a ceremony held at the University of Santo Tomas last January 24.

The winners, together with the 17 other PMO finalists, will undergo training during the summer and will get the chance to be part of the national team that will compete in the 56th IMO in Chiang Mai, Thailand on July 4-16, 2015.

The PMO, the oldest and most challenging mathematics competition in the country, is being organized by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology ? Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

SEI director Josette Biyo cited the winners as well as the other finalists who bested the 213 other high school students who qualified in the Area Stages.

?Their victory in the IMO gave them an edge over the others and I hope that this advantage will lead to them winning in the grander stage,? Biyo said.

?I am optimistic that the three of them as well as the other finalists will bring their best during the training camp for us to have the best team we can field come July.?

The training will be held in parts of April and July and shall be organized by the MSP and its partners.
