The agreement was signed last August 26 at the sidelines of the Global Forum on Intellectual Property in Singapore.

BASCAP, tasked to take a leading role against counterfeiting and piracy for the business community, is a special project of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the largest business organization in the world.

?We are pleased to have signed this cooperation agreement with BASCAP. As the principal advocacy body of the global business community against piracy and counterfeiting, our partnership with BASCAP will help us ensure that our IP protection and enforcement strategies are up-to-date and in tune with the requirements of the global businesses,? said Allan B. Gepty, OIC director general of the IPOPHL.

He added that the closer cooperation between IPOPHL and BASCAP is timely as it signifies trust and confidence of the business sector in the IP regime of the country especially that foreign businesses are now showing increased interest in investment opportunities in the Philippines.

Cooperation activities identified by the two parties include exchange of best practices, experiences and knowledge on IP protection, utilization and enforcement.

The 5th Philippine Anti-Counterfeiting and Piracy Summit will be held on October 26, 2015 and BASCAP is expected to be one of the major participants in the said event.
