The event, held at the Makati Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City on Monday, May 16, marked the first time Vivo Philippines introduced a handset for the country.

“This is our first launch in the Philippines,” remarked Brent Samuel Loree, Vivo overseas brand manager. At the podium during the event, Loree said Vivo’s arrival in the country marked an important milestone the company.

The shiny new Vivo V3 Max, which will be sold for P16,990, will be available in Manila, Cebu, and Davao. The company opened pre-orders for the unit during the launch.

The smartphone is one of the Vigour (V) Series to come out of Vivo Mobile, one of China?s major phone makers. The company is also among the world?s top 5 global manufacturers of smartphones, according to research firm IDC.

The Philippines, as reported in 2015, had edged out Vietnam to become the third biggest market of smartphones in Southeast Asia (SEA), with Indonesia first and Thailand second.

The Statistical Portal, in a separate report, estimated smartphone users in the Philippines for 2016 at around 29.9 million.

Asked to explain Vivo?s tagline ?Faster than Faster,? Loree said: “The phone is all about being fast and that’s what we really try to focus on: the fast camera, the fast fingerprint unlocking, and the 4GB RAM,” said Loree.

He added: “We feel that that all comes together at a very attractive price point, as well as to bring a fast and smooth user experience to local consumers.”

Loree and the rest of Vivo Philippines executives are confident that the metal-clad V3 Max will be a hit among smartphone-savvy Filipinos.

“We hope that it’s going to be well-received in this market. We feel that it is a good fit for this country. It is a growing market for us. We are going to put a lot of emphasis on it as we continue our expansion globally,” he said.

Vivo Mobile is also bringing its V Series of handsets in India, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Indonesia.

The Vivo V3 Max smartphone features 4G LTE; 5.5″ Full HD at 1920×1080) Corning Gorilla glass display; Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core Processor; 4GB RAM/32GB ROM (expandable to 128GB); 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera; dual SIM dual Standby; and 3,000 mAh battery.

Staying true to its ?Faster than Faster? motto, the phone also carries ?faster fingerprint unlocking, faster charging, quick-launch camera, and smart-split function.

Hazel Bascon, Vivo Philippines vice president, assured local users of the handset’s premium features brought on by its proprietary Funtouch OS 2.5 anchored on Android Lollipop 5.1.

“We are proud to announce the arrival of the V3 Max that will provide consumers with a new and compelling device offering that challenges the boundaries of a mid-range smartphone,” she enthused.

“The V3 Max is our way of showing Filipino consumers that Vivo is confident that we can give them great performing phones that boast premium features at an affordable price,” Bascon added.

She asserted the handset sports ground-breaking designs on top of state-of-the-art technologies, noting that it is equipped with a fingerprint scanner that allows users to unlock the handset in as few as 0.2 seconds in its wake state and 0.5 seconds when in sleep mode.

The smartphone’s Smart Split capability, meanwhile, gives its users the ease of watching a video while chatting — a boon for multitasking — without exiting the former.

Bascon intimated that her company still has more in store awaiting Filipinos. “Consumers can look forward to even more innovative offers that Vivo Philippines has in store for them,” she said.
