Young math wizards from the Philippines emerged as the overall champion in an international math contest held recently in India.

The Philippine team bagged 23 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals to top the 7th International Young Mathematicians? Convention held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 in Lucknow, India.
Besides winning individual medals, the Filipino students wound up as overall champion in the senior division in addition to bagging eight champion awards, five first runners-up, and two second runners-up awards in the team contest, math quiz, and math relay contest.
Following the Philippines are India and Vietnam, which ended up in second and third places, respectively.
Other participating countries were Bangladesh, Brazil Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Nigeria, Russia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
Aside from head of delegation, Dr. Isidro Aguilar of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG), also accompanying the students to the contest were team leaders Myrna Agtarap, Manuel Kotah, James Kelvin Martin and Renard Eric Chua, all from MTG.
