One of the country?s top ten lenders will expand its sponsored hackathons to cover the cities of Davao, Iloilo, and Baguio this year.
Called U:Hack & PL@Y, the hackathons ? organized by the Union Bank of the Philippines ? will focus on developing banking and e-commerce solutions through artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, identity authentication, robotics, and data analytics.
?But we’re not limiting it because you never know what you will discover in a hackathon,? Michelle Rubio, UnionBank senior vice-president (SVP) and human resources director, said.
“Last year was our first, so we’re improving in terms of the challenges, in terms of bringing together communities, being community of developers, teachers, partners, young professionals, students, younger people,” said
According to a company statement, the bank will provide free training particularly for school personnel in colleges and universities by experts on mixed reality, Internet of Things, and design thinking.
The hackathons are generally open to 3rd to 4th year IT students and young professionals, but will also accept children aged seven to 11 years.
UnionBank held their first series of hackathons in the cities of Cebu, Mandaluyong, and Pasig, and lastly in UnionBank Plaza. The culminating event will be held in Manila by the end of the year.
