UP shares prime content on UP Open University Networks

In a digital landscape that’s now flooded with fake news that often defy the laws of science and logic, it is always great to know where we can get reliable or validated information.

The University of the Philippines just raised the online intelligence index with the content-rich UP Open University (UPOU) Networks.

UPOU Networks in an online repository of multimedia learning materials. A UP Media and Public Relations Office report by Arlyn VCD Palisoc Romualdo quoted UPOU Chancellor Melinda Bandalaria, who pointed out: “This is not just an index or listing of links to learning materials, which is quite common. This is a collection of UP-created content (both open and proprietary) which we are disseminating online and sharing with everyone.”

The report went on to list the sections on UPOU Networks:

UPOU Live – This is where lectures, symposia, research presentations, seminars, and other University events are broadcast in real time.

UPOU On Record – This is a collection of podcasts and other audio materials.

UPOU Commons – This is where pen educational resources (OERs) are housed under a Creative Commons license.

UPOU Mix – This has learning materials in various formats and on different topics.

Some of the UP-produced open educational resources found under the UPOU Commons section.

The UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized OERs as “strategic in improving access to quality education.” As such, OPOU Networks is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

This just goes to show that there is a wealth of good content online. People really just have to make an effort to visit the right online spaces. It takes a little more effort to discern which content is legit and which is fake. At the very least, UP’s endorsement of these great resources via UPOU Networks saves us a lot of time.
