Members of the Philippine-American Academy of Science & Engineering (PAASE), a non-profit organization composed of scientists and engineers of Philippine descent, will gather in the University of the Philippines Diliman on October 24-25, 2018 to draft and present position papers that would contribute to the implementation of the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 and the long-term vision and aspirations of Filipinos, AmBisyon Nation 2040.

The meeting is a follow-up conference from the PAASE meeting held at the University of Arizona in the United States in April 2018.

?In the spirit of constructive volunteerism, we would like to deliver how science, technology, and innovation can be the major driver for socio-economic development,? said Dr. Gisela P. Concepcion, PAASE meeting chair and former UP vice president for academic affairs.

The meeting proper will consist of two days? simultaneous meetings of funded research groups consisting of local and foreign collaborators. The topics seek to empower academics, and research and development (R&D) in universities as hubs of R&D and innovation ecosystems.

After the meeting, members of PAASE intend to submit position papers to the executive and legislative branches of government.

National Economic Development Authority (Neda) secretary Ernesto Pernia, also a PAASE member, will deliver his keynote speech on the first day of the meeting.

?PAASE, as a scientific and engineering academy, was founded on the principle of intercontinental and global cooperation in science and engineering against a backdrop of national development. As such, PAASE members connect with minds globally, create value through impactful innovation, and contribute to improving lives through innovation,? PAASE president Dr. Joel Cuello stated.

A 230-strong organization with members in the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia, PAASE has been instrumental for some of the key science and technology legislation in the Philippines. One of them is Executive Order 586 , s. 2006, which establishes the National Science Complex at the UP Diliman.
