Telecommunications company PLDT-Smart and IT solutions provider Multisys Technologies have teamed up to support the San Juan City’s initiative to modernize local government services through digitization. PLDT-Smart and Multisys co-developed the upcoming San Juan City mobile application, mobile e-kiosks, and e-wallet services.

San Juan residents will soon be able to pay for permit licenses and real property taxes among others similar to the speed of paying bills on mobile wallets.

Several San Juan with heavy foot traffic — such as hospitals, markets, and malls will — will become WiFi zones. As part of the Next Billion Users initiative of Google, the WiFi zones will be equipped with Google Stations running Smart-powered connectivity. Signing up for WiFi connectivity requires users to watch at least one 10-second ad for 30 minutes of usage.

“We are happy to work with the San Juan City government in realizing their smart city vision. We look forward to helping Mayor Francis Zamora further enhance his government’s ability to respond even more efficiently to the needs of his constituents and elevate San Juan to be at par with other modern cities in Asia and the world,” said PLDT chair Manuel V. Pangilinan.

PLDT chief revenue officer and Smart president Alfredo Panlilio was also present during the launch where he also guaranteed Zamora that with the agreement, high-quality and reliable connectivity accessible across San Juan will empower the city’s residents, students, and even entrepreneurs.

For his part, Zamora noted that the city’s digital transformation is in line with the “Makabagong San Juan” vision. Ultimately, the mayor wants San Juan to be a smart city.

When fully deployed, the e-kiosks will also be able to print out receipts and certificates, as well as work seamlessly with the mobile application. In-app, city-wide announcements and relevant news will be posted and can even be used for real-time accident reports from concerned citizens which will be relayed to their quick emergency response systems in place.
