GAC debuts 3 new EVs in PH, pushes localization drive

Chinese automaker GAC made a strong statement at the 13th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), unveiling two all-new battery electric vehicles — the AION V and HYPTEC HT — alongside the Philippine debut of the AION UT, its global strategic model that first launched in Thailand.

The company also showcased its M8 PHEV and EMKOO HEV hybrid models, underscoring a multi-path approach to electrification. The display reflects GAC’s intent to strengthen its Southeast Asian footprint through new technologies, localization, and ecosystem partnerships.

The AION V, a family-oriented BEV SUV, features GAC’s fireproof Magazine Battery 2.0, offering up to 520 km CLTC range and rapid charging from 30% to 80% in 16 minutes.

Designed for Filipino urban conditions, it boasts a 2,775 mm wheelbase and tuned suspension for local roads.

The HYPTEC HT, GAC’s flagship electric SUV, emphasizes luxury and safety with dual-stage electric gullwing doors, Nappa leather interiors, reclining rear seats, and a 14.6-inch HD infotainment display powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Meanwhile, the AION UT, targeting younger drivers, makes its first Philippine appearance following its successful Thailand launch — where it achieved 1,000 deliveries within 39 days.

According to Wang Shunsheng, senior vice president of GAC International, the launches mark “a landmark moment for GAC in the Philippines,” signaling the company’s aim to make EV adoption both practical and accessible.

GAC’s Philippine growth follows its “ONE GAC 2.0” global strategy — focused on localized operations, ecosystem building, and long-term partnerships.

Since entering the market in 2018, the brand has built over 30 dealerships and service centers, achieving a 65% year-on-year sales increase in 2024, among the top Chinese brands locally.

Calvin Cheng, general manager of GAC International Philippines, said the localization strategy extends beyond product launches.

“We are also building long-term partnerships, creating jobs, and investing in the Philippine EV ecosystem. We see the Philippines as a key market in GAC’s Southeast Asia roadmap,” Cheng said.

To attract first-time EV buyers, GAC rolled out an Exclusive Launch Privilege Package for AION V and HYPTEC HT customers.

For ₱999, buyers receive over ₱99,999 worth of incentives — including a 7kW home charger, portable charger, tint and accessories, charging credits, three-year LTO registration and insurance, one-year preventive maintenance, and ₱10,000 cash discount.

“We are not just introducing vehicles but creating an electric future that is inclusive, sustainable, and distinctly Filipino,” Cheng added.
