REVIEW | RedMi Note 15 Pro 5G smartphone

Xiaomi Philippines recently launched its highly anticipated RedMi Note 15 line, featuring the “Titan Tough” durability claim alongside impressive performance metrics.

After an in-depth review of the RedMi Note 15 Pro 5G model, it showed that the smartphone is not just about toughness; it also delivers powerful, flagship-level performance that stands out in the mid-range market.

Display

The RedMi Note 15 Pro features a 6.83-inch flat AMOLED display.  With a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, it performs well in bright conditions. The 120Hz refresh rate ensures a smooth scrolling experience, complemented by HDR10+ color accuracy and a resolution of 2772×1280.

Additionally, it carries the TÜV Rheinland Eye Care Certification, which is a reassuring feature for users who spend extended periods on their devices.

Performance

At its core, the Note 15 Pro has the Mediatek Dimensity 7400 Ultra, a capable mid-tier octa-core processor that promises exceptional performance. Paired with an integrated Mali-G615 MC2 GPU and MediaTek NPU 655, this setup excels in gaming and AI processing.

The Note 15 Pro offers 8GB of dynamic RAM (expandable to 12GB) and 256GB of internal storage, although a portion of that is taken up by bloatware — over 30GB of system data right out of the box.

For benchmarking, the 7400 Ultra managed a single-core score of 1,053, and multi-core score of 2,909, with Geekbench 6.  With PC Mark Work 3.0, the processor has a performance score of 12,728.  These are all respectable scores, easily handling daily tasks, and AI tools.

The graphics performance of the processor also excels at the benchmarking.  It was able to reach a 3,032 score with Geekbench 6, and could handle graphically demanding games like Goddess of Victory: Nikke at “High” settings, with minimal lags and heating.

Charging and Battery

Powered by a 6,580mAh battery, the RedMi Note 15 Pro promises longevity, boasting a lifespan of up to six years.  The 45W HyperCharge feature ensures quick recharging, while the 22.5W reverse charging capability allows the phone to act as a power bank for other devices.

Battery life tests conducted using PC Mark Work 3.0 indicate a runtime of 17 hours and 28 minutes, from a full charge down to 20%.

Durability

One of the standout features of the Note 15 Pro is its robust build quality.  The device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front, with a carbon fiber back panel providing additional durability.

The phone has achieved a five-star certification for drop resistance, handling falls from heights up to 2.5 meters.  Its IP ratings — IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K — ensure that it can withstand dust and water exposure, allowing it to handle even rough, daily outdoor use.

Camera

It houses a 200MP main camera paired with an 8MP ultrawide camera, both equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS).  The main camera’s five focal lengths offer versatility in various shooting scenarios, while the 20MP selfie camera positioned within the display is perfect for casual selfies.

The device leverages AI processing to enhance image quality, although some issues have been noted where the preview does not accurately reflect the final image.

For those looking to edit photos, a range of AI editing tools — including AI Erase Pro, AI Retouch, AI Image Enhancement, and AI Reflection Removal — come pre-installed, adding further value to the camera capabilities.  There are also other AI editing tools, but it would require being downloaded.

Verdict

Overall, the RedMi Note 15 Pro 5G solidly earns its place among the top contenders in the RedMi series. It provides a well-rounded performance at a competitive price point while featuring a durable build designed for longevity.

For those seeking a dependable daily smartphone, the Note 15 Pro is a well-balanced smartphone that excels in its class, without breaking the bank. However, if you have a bit more budget to spare, consider the Note 15 Pro+ for enhanced performance through its Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor.

While there are base models available in the series — like the Note 15 5G and Note 15 — these models compromise on performance and camera quality, falling short when compared to the Pro variants.

  • Full suite of AI image editing tools
