Tech giant Amazon said its planned investments in cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across four Southeast Asian countries are expected to exceed $33 billion by 2039, but the Philippines was notably absent from the list despite being one of the region’s major digital economies.
The investment plans cover Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, where Amazon Web Services (AWS) has already established regional cloud infrastructure.
The company said the investments are projected to contribute over $64 billion to the combined gross domestic product (GDP) of the four countries and support more than 56,300 full-time equivalent jobs annually in the local data center supply chain once completed.
Amazon said Southeast Asia’s digital economy is expected to reach $560 billion by 2030, prompting the company to accelerate investments in cloud and AI infrastructure across the region.
“Amazon has plans to invest more than $33 billion across Southeast Asia through 2039. We’re building infrastructure, training local workforces, and enabling businesses across the region to compete globally,” said David Zapolsky, Amazon chief global affairs and legal officer.
“Governments across Southeast Asia deserve recognition for their bold leadership in shaping policies and economic conditions that are accelerating growth and attracting global investment in AI and technology at an unprecedented pace,” he added.
While the Philippines was not included in Amazon’s announced cloud infrastructure investment plans, the company cited the country as among the Southeast Asian markets already using AWS technologies for AI deployment.
Union Bank of the Philippines was mentioned as having deployed generative AI-powered analytics for more than 200 business users through AWS.
Amazon currently operates AWS regions in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Singapore’s AWS region was launched in 2010, followed by Indonesia in 2021, Malaysia in 2024, and Thailand in 2025.
The company also said it invested more than $3 billion in Southeast Asia in 2025 alone, covering infrastructure and employee compensation across its various businesses including AWS, Stores, Devices, and Entertainment.
Amazon added that it has trained more than 2.7 million individuals across Southeast Asia on cloud-related skills since 2017 as part of efforts to build an AI-ready workforce in the region.
