foodpanda allocates P20 million for rider safety, rainy-season support

Food delivery platform foodpanda Philippines said it is allocating about P20 million for rider safety measures and additional earnings support during the rainy season.

The package, covering June through August, includes weather monitoring, temporary service restrictions and additional payments for riders who choose to make deliveries during mild to moderate rain.

foodpanda said it monitors regional weather advisories and road conditions and automatically pauses operations or restricts delivery zones when severe weather or flooding poses a safety risk.

During less severe rain, partner riders who voluntarily log on will receive an additional P10 to P15 per order to account for slower traffic, detours and difficult road conditions.

Riders will also receive advance notifications through the app about forecasted rain to help them plan their schedules.

“Our partner riders are essential to keeping local communities going, and their health and safety will always come before any delivery,” said Kyrinne Kate Viaje, country fleet health head of foodpanda Logistics Philippines.

“Our priority during severe weather is to equip riders with the right information and complete autonomy to decide when it is safe to be on the road. When operations are active during mild to moderate rain, we want to ensure those who choose to log on are fairly compensated for the extra time and care required.”

The company said its year-round rider safety program also covers defensive driving, emergency preparedness and safe riding practices during adverse weather.

foodpanda urged customers to expect longer delivery times during bad weather, keep their contact information updated and remain available for messages from riders. It added that all tips made through the app are transferred to the rider.
