DICT touts ‘huge’ PH leap in 2024 Global e-Participation rankings

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said the Philippines posted an “unprecedented climb” in the 2024 United Nations e-Participation Index (EPI), surging 31 spots, from 80th in 2022 to 49th in 2024.

The DICT credited the milestone to the eGovernment platforms, particularly the eGovPH App, which the agency launched recently.

“This achievement is not just a rank; it’s a reflection of our unwavering commitment to breaking down bureaucratic barriers and ensuring every Filipino has access to efficient, transparent, and inclusive government services,” DICT secretary Ivan Uy stated.

“Our eGovernment initiatives are designed to transform the way Filipinos interact with their government, eliminating red tape and fostering trust through accountability and innovation.”

The agency said at the forefront of this digital transformation is the eGovPH App, an all-in-one platform that allow Filipinos to access local and national government services directly from their mobile phones.

From renewing business permits and generating Digital National IDs to paying for clearances, the app has streamlined once-complicated processes into user-friendly solutions.

Since its launch in July 2022, the eGovPH App has garnered over nine million active users, saving citizens countless hours, reducing costs, and simplifying access to essential services.

The DICT said its “pursuit of innovation” has resulted in the development of 25 digital platforms, with 20 already operational.

“These platforms are designed to cut through red tape, connect fragmented systems, and address long-standing inefficiencies in governance,” it said.

The platforms include:

  • eTravel, facilitating paperless entry and exit for over 35.6 million users.
  • eLGU, empowering 900 local government units to streamline their processes.
  • eNGA, integrating 75 national government systems.
  • eReport, enabling citizens to swiftly report crimes, emergencies, or provide feedback on government services.

The DICT said it also launched the “Bayang Digital ang Bagong Pilipinas” campaign in 2024, an initiative that seeks to make the nation ready to thrive in the digital economy through agile governance and citizen-centric innovation.
