REVIEW | Honor X6c entry-level smartphone

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor has unveiled its latest entry-level offering — the Honor X6c. This device emphasizes durability, a large battery capacity, and an innovative “AI Button,” making it an attractive choice for budget-conscious consumers.

Design and Display

The Honor X6c sports a sleek rectangular design with curved edges, receiving an SGS Premium Performance Certificate for drop resistance from heights of up to 1.5 meters.  Additionally, it has achieved an IP64 rating for dust and water resistance, ensuring it can withstand everyday challenges.

Its 6.61-inch TFT LCD display boasts a peak brightness of 1010 nits, providing good visibility even in bright daylight.  Users can also benefit from eye comfort features such as natural light settings, flicker-free dimming, a blue light filter, and an eBook mode to reduce eye strain.

However, the display resolution is limited to 1604 x 720, which may not suffice for media consumption or gaming enthusiasts.

Performance

Equipped with the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra CPU and integrated ARM Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, the X6c is designed for daily smartphone tasks.  It can handle basic AI applications but might struggle with more demanding apps.

The smartphone is equipped with a robust 5,300mAh battery, supporting 35W Honor SuperCharge for quick recharging.

Benchmark tests using GeekBench 6 yielded a single-core score of 399 and a multi-core score of 1,402.  In GPU testing, the X6c registered a score of 977, while its AI capabilities achieved a quantized score of 312.

For entry-level performance, these numbers are sufficient to manage simple smartphone operations.

Camera

The X6c features a single 50MP rear camera, capable of 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second, and a 5MP front camera with similar video capabilities and face recognition.

Honor has included AI editing tools such as AI Eraser, AI Upscale, and AI Outpainting.  However, capturing high-quality photos may require steady hands, as the lack of stabilization and high-contrast image rendering, could blur and smudge images.

Gaming and AI Features

A standout feature of the X6c is its dedicated AI Mobile Assistant, accessible via a side button on the left side of the device.  This feature allows users to customize a quick-access menu for frequently used apps like screen recorder, notes, and personal planners.

Running on MagicOS 9.0 based on Android 15, the X6c also offers additional proprietary Honor AI tools such as “Magic Capsule,” “Hidden Apps,” “AI Translation,” and “Magic Portal.”

During gaming tests, the device performed smoothly with “League of Legends” at 60FPS. However, it exhibited some lag when switching between graphics-intensive settings and experienced stuttering in higher frame rates with “PUBG Mobile.”

The X6c was also tested with the graphics-intensive game, “CarX Street,” however the game detected that the phones performance is not compatible with the game requirement.
