Smart Communications has partnered with global technology firm Thales to roll out the Smart Prepaid and TNT Multi SIM, a solution that enables eSIM functionality on non-eSIM capable smartphones.
The Multi SIM, the first of its kind in the Philippines, works like a regular SIM card but allows users to add eSIM profiles through the Smart Multi SIM app.
The service is compatible with Android 9 and later devices that do not support built-in eSIM technology.
Smart, the wireless unit of PLDT, was the first to introduce prepaid eSIM in the country. The new Multi SIM aims to extend the digital eSIM experience to a wider market, including users who rely on entry-level smartphones, overseas workers, and frequent travelers.
“Smart is proud to be the first in the country to enable a digital eSIM experience for the broader market of non-eSIM smartphones,” said Lloyd Manaloto, Smart Communications first vice president for corporate marketing & strategy.
Jon Cahilig, Thales head of sales for mobile connectivity solutions in Asia, said the launch “democratizes access to flexible mobile connectivity” by allowing subscribers to explore eSIM services without owning an eSIM-ready device.
The Smart Prepaid Multi SIM and TNT eSIM-dot will be available starting August 2025 in Smart stores, the Smart Online Store, and official e-commerce platforms.
