In July 2025, Canon Philippines rolled out the EOS R50 V, a camera designed with content and media creation in mind. Positioned as an entry-level offering, the R50 V impressively balances performance, ease of use, and portability, making it a suitable choice for both beginners and seasoned professionals alike.
Body Design
The R50 V boasts a compact design that prioritizes handheld shooting and gimbal compatibility. This compact camera — constructed from glass fiber-reinforced polycarbonate and supported by a magnesium alloy frame — manages to strike a balance between durability and lightweight design, tipping the scales at just 370g (or 551g when paired with the RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ lens). While it lacks weatherproofing, its lightweight build makes it a breeze to carry for on-the-go shooting.

Key features include a 3-inch touchscreen that flips and rotates, allowing for easy selfies and vlogging. Additionally, a front-facing record button ensures you can start shooting without fumbling around. However, it should be noted that unlike the EOS R50, the R50 V does not include a viewfinder or built-in flash.
Sensor Capabilities
At the heart of the EOS R50 V is a robust 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, enhanced by Canon’s DIGIC X image processing engine. This duo delivers impressive performance, showcasing features like Custom Pictures, Look Up Tables (LUTs), and HDR recording modes. The camera excels in low-light conditions with high ISO sensitivity, minimizing noise even at maximum ISO 12800 for videos and 32000 for photos.

Videographers will appreciate the 4K 60p livestreaming capability via USB-C, alongside professional audio support with three-mic noise reduction. Pairing the R50 V with the RF-S14-30mm kit lens, Canon’s first to feature built-in power zoom, enhances versatility with 15 customizable zoom speeds.
Videography Features
Designed for the modern videographer, the R50 V’s compact size allows for easy movement while capturing footage. Its advanced autofocus (AF) system includes a variety of point selections and eye detection for both humans and animals.
The camera can perform 6K oversampling, delivering stunning 4K resolution, while also offering full HD at 120 frames per second for smooth slow-motion effects. It could also record at 120frames per second (FPS, at full HD resolution.

Switching between different video modes is seamless, thanks to options like Slow and Fast Motion, as well as Cinema and Professional View modes integrated into the mode dial. The Professional Movie UI provides essential tools such as Zebra Display, False Colour, and Level Display, facilitating precise control during shoots. Plus, the ability to record in XF-HEVC S and XF-AVC S formats ensures high-quality footage without sacrificing data compression.
While it does lack In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the R50 V compensates with an electronic stabilization feature — Movie Digital IS — that crops footage slightly to maintain smoothness, complemented by the Coordinated Control IS on compatible lenses.
Photography Performance
The R50 V is not just a videographer’s dream; it also excels in still photography. With a maximum resolution of 6000 x 4000 pixels, the camera’s DIGIC X processor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system provide reliable autofocus tracking for faces, eyes, animals, and even vehicles. The Lens Aberration Correction feature further enhances image quality, reducing distortion for crisp results.

Lens Compatibility
One standout feature of the R50 V is its interchangeable lens capability. In contrast to the Canon Powershot V1, which has a fixed zoom lens, the R50 V has an RF lens mount. It comes equipped with the versatile RF-S14-30mm f/4-6.3 IS STM PZ kit lens — ideal for vlogging and close-up shots. It is also very compact, at 181g and 62mm, making it an easy daily carry.
Furthermore, the R50 V’s RF mount accommodates both APS-C and full-frame lenses, allowing users to experiment with different focal lengths and lens types without compromising on image quality.
