The Philippine delegation to the 2026 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2026 brought home six awards, including two Grand Awards, after competing against young researchers from more than 60 countries.
The Department of Education (DepEd) said the Filipino delegation was composed of 16 student researchers selected from winners of the 2026 National Science and Technology Fair held in March.
DepEd secretary Sonny Angara said the recognition showed that Filipino students can compete globally when given support in research and innovation.
Students from Angeles City Science High School won the 2nd Grand Award in the Energy: Sustainable Materials and Design category for their project “WinDTurbinePower.”
The team — Nathan Andrew P. Canilao, Pierre Phoella G. Ilagan, and Asher John G. Garcia — also received a special award for Excellence in Energy and Environmental Stewardship. Their project earned a combined cash prize of $4,400.

Meanwhile, learners from Quezon City Science High School secured the 3rd Grand Award in the Software Design category for “ViSMo,” an AI-integrated vital status monitoring robot with Internet of Things features.
The team, composed of Jose Rafael Cayabyab, Cassandra Lipango, and Eirah Riduca, also received the Arizona State University Scholarship Award and the Society for Science Alumni Award.
Another Filipino student, Charly David T. Manuel of Alaminos City National High School, received the Patent and Trademark Office Society First Prize Award in the Physics and Astronomy category, which carried a $500 cash prize.
Angara said the results also highlighted the need for continued investment in science education and research opportunities for students.
Held from May 9 to 15 in Phoenix, this year’s Regeneron ISEF gathered over 1,700 student researchers from around the world.
