Following Microsoft?s announcement last April that it has ceased providing support for Windows XP, an Internet security firm has urged local companies to ditch the 12-year-old operating system (OS) as well.
Security software company Trend Micro said it advised local firms to migrate to a newer OS even as it informed them that it can provide protection against various threats while they are still in the migrating process.
“We met with banks, manufacturing, and enterprise companies and our main message was to help them migrate from Windows XP to the new platform. Most of them cannot do it immediately because of the complexity and we’re providing them the security both on the endpoint and software side,” said Trend Micro Philippines business manager Ian Felipe.
Also present in the gathering with local companies were Trend Micro Asia-Pacific product director of enterprise security Joe Lee, regional product marketing manager David Ng, and country sales manager for Philippines Jefferson Lat.
Released in October 2001, Windows XP became a hugely popular OS among corporate and consumer users worldwide. But, Microsoft officially ended all support for the OS last April 8, which includes all bug fixes and vulnerability patches.
In the same event, Trend Micro announced major upgrades to its user protection solution. Improvements include PC and mobile endpoints, email and collaboration, and Web security to enable integrated visibility and threat response.
Among the solution’s protection capabilities are application control, browser exploit detection, cloud-based secure Web gateway, improved endpoint encryption, user-centric visibility, refreshed vulnerability protection, and expanded hosted email security. ? Tom Noda
