Telco network PLDT has warned its customers about the rising incidents of unauthorized modem collection by fake PLDT personnel in some areas of the country, particularly Pangasinan and other parts of Central Luzon.
PLDT, quoting a report by Romanian cybersecurity technology company Bitdefender, said hackers will go after employees 99% of the time by employing social engineering to coax their victims into revealing their personal information.
Having seen no irregularities by external probe, PLDT said it is attributing the overrun solely on the huge expenses it incurred for big-ticket projects and costly 5G equipment.
