DPWH to use Waze traffic app for road work announcements

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that it will bring out information on planned and on-going road repairs to help motorists and commuters through the Waze mobile application with the help of the local Waze community.

waze closure

Information on scheduled DPWH works requiring partial or total road lane closure due to upgrading, rehabilitation/repair and improvement works will be provided to the Philippine Waze Champs or senior editors for incorporation into the Waze map.

During the trial run, affected roads in Metro Manila will be displayed as ?DPWH RD WORKS? or ?CLOSED? on the highway names and Waze will automatically suggest possible alternative routes.

Waze users can look forward to having advance, if not real-time, information of affected roads as shown up on the Waze map, the DPWH said.

?We are extremely excited to partner with the local Waze community to help motorists and commuters plan their trip whenever the DPWH has on-going road repair and maintenance works initially in the National Capital Region,? said DPWH secretary Rogelio L. Singson.

Singson said they intend to tap Waze in the future for nationwide road advisories especially during calamities.
