The local office of tech giant IBM was recently given an Outstanding Award for its achievements in energy efficiency and conservation at the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards for 2014.
IBM was cited for attaining 10.5 percent energy savings in its UP-Ayala TechnoHub Building J office facility. This translates to 63,927 liters of oil saved with a monetary equivalent of P2,470,779.00, resulting in 125,405 kilograms of avoided carbon dioxide.
The energy savings were obtained by switching off or reducing lighting and air-conditioning during non-operating or low staffing hours; increasing air-conditioning unit temperature from 20 to 24 degrees Centigrade; implementing computer power management; participating in the annual Earth Hour initiative; and by switching off of water dispensers during non-operating hours.
The Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards is organized by the Department of Energy (DOE) and recipients of the Outstanding Award are institutions that have improved their energy performance by at least 5 percent via sustainable energy efficiency and conservation programs.
Sam Pasion, IBM Philippines real estate site operations manager, was also awarded as an Outstanding Energy Manager for 2014.
