UN Women to hold ?Safe Cities? hackathon

The UN Women Safe Cities Metro Manila Program and the Quezon City local government are organizing a hackathon titled, ?Safe Cities Hackathon: Tech the Path for Women?s Safety? through its event coordinator, 8layer Technologies Inc.

The hackathon will be held at Korea Philippines IT Training Center at the Quezon City Polytechnic University, 673 Quirino Highway in Novaliches, Quezon City on May 21-22, 2016.

Fifty six seasoned and emerging ?hackers? will develop applications addressing street harassment and sexual violence against women and girls in public spaces. The winning team for student category will get to take home P20,000 cash prize and P30,000 for the winning team in professional category.

A pre-event was held last May 14 at Pavilion, Garden Park 6, Kapitolyo, Pasig City. The hackathon is supported by Globe, Uber, Epson, Chikka, Loreal, MaraLabs, Whoot, Here Maps, and Open Data Philippines.
