Electronics giant Lenovo celebrated the 25th anniversary of ThinkPad laptops at Yamato Labs in Japan ? the birthplace of the company’s most popular laptop model.
Lenovo also announced the ThinkPad Anniversary Edition 25 ? a modern incarnation of the classic design including the iconic ?retro? features such as a backlit seven-row ThinkPad Classic keyboard, dedicated volume buttons, multiple status LEDs and a multi-color logo.
The design concept started in June 2015 using social media as a medium to gather feedback and preferences from ThinkPad fans and loyalists from around the world.
The Edition 25 is powered by an Intel Core i7-7500U processor with discrete NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics and a 14-inch full HD display with touchscreen capability.
Inspired by the traditional Japanese bento box,?the original ThinkPad 700C was announced on October 5,?1992.
?ThinkPad design creates a powerful and synergistic relationship between form and function. It balances sophisticated aesthetics, thoughtfully crafted user experiences and renowned engineering in order to deliver superior products,? said David Hill, former chief design officer of Lenovo. ?25 years after the introduction of the original 700C, the latest X1 Carbon is immediately recognizable as a ThinkPad.?
The ThinkPad Anniversary Edition 25 will be available in limited quantities in select countries, with pricing still unknown.
