Switzerland-based industrial technology firm ABB has partnered with QEV Philippines to supply 200 Terra 53 electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations in the Philippines for the next three years.

Four EV charging stations are expected to be installed in select gasoline stations in Metro Manila during the first quarter of 2018. ABB has installed more than 6,000 cloud-based charging solutions in over 55 countries.

?ABB is delighted to be involved in bringing game-changing technologies to the transportation landscape in the Philippines,? said Frank M?hlon, head of ABB?s global business for electric vehicle charging. ?This is an important step in moving away from fossil fuel-dependent vehicles to cleaner, more sustainable options,? he added.

ABB supplies Terra 53 chargers as part of a broader cloud-enabled network. As part of the ABB Ability portfolio of connected solutions, the network allows users to access Internet-based connected services such as remote assistance, tailored diagnostic troubleshooting and repair, and remote updates and upgrades.

The Terra 53 charger is an all-in-one, multi-standard AC and DC fast charger that is compatible with e-vehicles such as jeepneys that run on lithium-ion batteries.

Fast-charging stations like Terra 53 should be able to charge batteries from 20% to up to 80% in 15 minutes. Using EVs will help eliminate fuel-dependent vehicles and encourage the use of clean and renewable energy.

ABB and QEV Philippines said they are also supporting the government?s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program. Starting this year, QEV will be seeking assistance from the government to convert 10,000 units of jeepneys to eco-friendly e-jeeps annually.

?Together with ABB, QEV fully supports the government?s public utility vehicle modernization program. Our vision to convert some 20,000 jeepneys into cleaner EVs will help operators reduce energy and maintenance costs,? said QEV Philippines general manager Audrey Penaranda.
