IPOPHL links Pinoy green tech innovators to global WIPO platform

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has partnered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to help Filipino green technology developers connect with potential investors, businesses, and international collaborators through a global online platform.

Under the partnership, IPOPHL will promote WIPO GREEN, a free online database that connects providers of environmentally sustainable technologies with organizations seeking solutions to environmental challenges.

The platform allows innovators, researchers, and startups to showcase green technologies, while businesses, investors, and other organizations can post requests for solutions that meet their needs. The goal is to facilitate technology transfer, commercialization, and wider adoption of green innovations.

IPOPHL will provide expertise in intellectual property (IP) protection and management and promote the platform through its networks, including its Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSOs).

The agency is also exploring ways to integrate WIPO GREEN into its existing initiatives, particularly the Socially Relevant Technologies (SRT) Project and the Green Technology Incentive Program.

Previous SRT awardees will be invited to learn about the platform and register as users, while ITSO networks will be tapped to promote green technologies developed by their stakeholders.

IPOPHL director general Teodoro C. Pascua said the partnership aims to give Filipino innovators greater exposure to potential users and collaborators.

The agreement builds on the WIPO GREEN Acceleration Project launched in the Philippines in March 2026, which focuses on connecting businesses in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors with technology providers.

The project has identified more than 30 technology seekers and more than 30 technology providers, resulting in 11 matches so far. Eco Innovation Consultancy is implementing the project, with work scheduled to continue until the end of the year, subject to a possible extension.

Established in 2013, WIPO GREEN is a public-private partnership that supports the development and deployment of environmentally sustainable technologies. Its network includes 171 partners from government, academia, business, and international organizations.

IPOPHL will also participate in IPO GREEN, a WIPO initiative that brings together intellectual property offices to share policies and practices supporting green technology development.

Launched in 2022 with funding from the Japan Patent Office, IPO GREEN helps IP offices explore measures such as accelerated patent processing for green technologies, incentives for green patent applications, IP data analysis, and business matchmaking.

The partnership gives IPOPHL another channel to promote Filipino-developed environmental technologies, although the extent of commercial opportunities will depend on whether innovators can secure suitable partners, investment, and adoption of their solutions.
