DTI seizes P13M in uncertified appliances sold online

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has seized more than P13.2-million worth of uncertified household appliances being sold online, in a major enforcement operation in Bulacan.

Over 3,000 products — including electric kettles, fans, pressure cookers, rice cookers, multi-cookers, induction cookers, and blenders — were confiscated after DTI’s online monitoring teams flagged suspicious listings.

The operation was triggered by a test-buy conducted through an e-commerce platform, which confirmed that the items lacked the required Philippine Standard (PS) marks and Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) stickers. These certifications are mandatory under the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) to ensure product safety.

DTI issued a Notice of Violation (NOV) to the seller and directed them to submit an explanation within 48 hours.

“This case highlights how online platforms are increasingly being used to sell uncertified and potentially unsafe appliances,” the DTI said, stressing that its nationwide E-Kalasag operations will continue to monitor e-commerce sites to protect consumers from substandard goods.

Last year, DTI carried out a record-breaking seizure in Bulacan, confiscating P44 million worth of non-compliant household products.

The agency reiterated its warning to both sellers and buyers: uncertified appliances not only violate trade regulations but also pose serious safety risks to Filipino households.
