AI, elections, and streaming top Google’s 2025 trends in PH

Internet giant Google has released its annual Year in Search for the Philippines, revealing that artificial intelligence, national elections, and online entertainment dominated what Filipinos looked up online throughout 2025.

Topping this year’s list is Gemini AI, reflecting the growing use of artificial intelligence for schoolwork, business tasks, content creation, and daily activities. Google said the surge in search interest marks AI’s shift from a niche technology to a mainstream tool used by ordinary Filipinos.

Politics and public safety followed closely. “Halalan 2025 results” ranked second overall, mirroring the high public engagement during the midterm elections.

Meanwhile, frequent quakes around the country pushed “earthquake near me” to the fourth spot. Related searches like “earthquake safety information” also entered the Top Trending News list, suggesting that Filipinos are increasingly turning online for real-time alerts and emergency guidelines.

Entertainment continued to play a powerful role in Filipino search habits. Netflix remained the dominant streaming platform, with all Top 10 shows coming from online services.

Squid Game led the Shows and Series category and placed sixth in the overall rankings, proving its continued cultural impact years after its debut.

Youth-driven gaming trends also surfaced, with Roblox spin-off Grow a Garden landing at No. 3 overall and topping the Games category. The popularity of the title highlights how Filipino children and teens are shaping search behavior nationwide.

Local personalities also generated strong interest. Rising tennis star Alex Eala topped searches among female personalities and appeared prominently in the Sports list alongside boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.

In music, Filipino singer Dionela ranked as the most searched male personality, with his breakout song “Marilag” entering the Top Songs of the year.

Google’s findings coincide with regional data showing rapid growth in the Philippines’ digital habits.

According to the 2025 e-Conomy Report, the country is among Southeast Asia’s fastest-rising online media markets, expanding 16% year-on-year alongside Vietnam and Indonesia.
