Pinoy aircon installers top Asean competition in China

Filipino air-conditioning installers dominated the 2025 Asean Finals of the Midea Club Flash Installation Tournament held in Foshan, China, with two representatives placing in the top three of the regional competition.

Mark Kevin Peña of the Philippines won the championship and the “Master of Speed 2025” title, while fellow Filipino Jerome Pumaren finished third. Malaysia’s Lui Kher Sze placed second. Peña received a $5,000 cash prize.

The Philippines also won the National Award for overall performance, besting delegations from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

The finalists were selected from national rounds that drew over 10,000 participants across Southeast Asia.

The annual tournament tests professional installers’ technical skills and speed in air-conditioning setup.

Aside from the competition, participants toured Midea’s Innovation Park and manufacturing facilities in Guangzhou to observe product development and production processes.

The Flash Installation Tournament is part of the Midea Club program, which offers HVAC technicians training, certification and support tools through a dedicated app.
