TCL expands TESDA training program for Pinoy aircon technicians

Chinese electronics firm TCL said it has expanded its technical training partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as it conducted the second batch of its refrigeration and air-conditioning training program for Filipino technicians.

The company said the latest program builds on last year’s lecture-based training by adding more hands-on sessions focused on the installation, repair, and maintenance of domestic refrigeration and air-conditioning units.

Twenty-five trainees participated in the three-day training held at the TCL-TESDA Center inside the TESDA RTC-NCR facility.

“This second chapter of our training program marks a significant milestone in our mission to uplift Filipino talent,” said Joseph Cernitchez, brand manager of TCL Philippines.

“As we envisioned, this session provides aspiring technicians with the essential tools and practical experience they need to succeed in today’s competitive landscape. By focusing on real-world skills and industry-standard technology, TCL is dedicated to transforming learners into professionals who will strengthen our workforce and lead the future of the industry,” he added.

TESDA Center administrator Eugene P. Agcaoili said the partnership highlights the role of public-private collaboration in workforce development.

“This collaboration is a strong example of what public-private partnerships can achieve, creating meaningful opportunities for skills development and contributing to the growth and competitiveness of the Filipino workforce,” Agcaoili said.

According to TCL, the program also included product-specific training on the company’s smart air-conditioning technologies such as the TCL Home App and voice command functions.

The company said trainees were also introduced to employment and dealership opportunities through interactions with TCL teams and authorized dealers.

The TCL air conditioner smart manufacturing facility in Guangzhou, China

Separately, TCL also announced the inauguration of its new smart manufacturing base for air conditioners in Guangzhou, China, which the company said can produce one unit every seven seconds using AI-driven manufacturing systems.

The Guangzhou facility, which involved an investment of nearly 2 billion yuan, is expected to produce up to 8 million air-conditioning units annually and create more than 10,000 jobs through its ecosystem of partner enterprises, according to TCL.

TCL said the facility uses AI systems and more than 17,000 IoT sensors to automate manufacturing operations, while also incorporating zero-carbon and energy-saving features.
