Riot Games updates TFT, adds new traits and gameplay

Riot Games’ auto-battler Teamfight Tactics (TFT) rolled out its latest update, “Set 17: Space Gods”, on March 29, introducing new gameplay systems, traits, and a redesigned thematic style.

The update departs from the game’s usual sci-fi tone, adopting a more whimsical and abstract take on cosmic deities.

Central to the set is the new “Realm of the Gods” mechanic, where players are presented with two randomly selected gods at the start of each match and must choose between different rewards and relics.

The system recurs throughout the match, allowing players to receive additional bonuses that can influence strategy.

Several new traits were also introduced. These include “Meeple,” which adds companion units that enhance champions; “Anima,” which grants technological upgrades tied to combat outcomes; and “Dark Star,” which enables units to create black holes that eliminate weakened enemies.

Other additions include “Stargazers,” which rely on positioning-based bonuses, and “Primordians,” which can summon auxiliary units in battle.

Returning champions were updated with new abilities. Bard, for instance, can deploy a UFO that deals damage and may abduct enemies, adding a new tactical element.

Developers said no new gods will be added during the set’s lifecycle, although balance adjustments are expected. Updates to augments and items are also planned, with details to be released in patch 17.1.

“The update introduces a vibrant blend of fantasy and space-themed elements,” the developers said.

Riot Games is also encouraging player feedback through playtests and a dedicated Discord channel for bug reporting.
