Emirates A380 returns to service with Starlink Wi-Fi onboard

Dubai-based carrier Emirates has brought back its first Airbus A380 equipped with Starlink satellite Internet, marking the start of a wider rollout across its fleet.

The aircraft returned to Dubai this week following installation and certification work in Newquay, United Kingdom.

The upgrade introduces next-generation in-flight connectivity powered by Starlink, which the airline said significantly boosts onboard Internet performance.

The airline said installing three Starlink antennas on each A380 allows total bandwidth to exceed 2 Gbps across the aircraft, compared with earlier systems that delivered less than 1 Mbps. This is expected to support streaming, gaming, and other high-bandwidth activities during flights.

“Emirates’ installation of three Starlink antennas on each A380 will improve the Wi-Fi available onboard a thousand-fold — offering a ‘better than at home’ connectivity experience for customers, while flying at 40,000 feet,” the company said.

The service will be offered free of charge across all cabin classes, with passengers able to connect using personal devices.

Future enhancements include live TV streaming initially on personal devices, with plans to integrate the service into seatback screens.

The A380 rollout follows earlier deployments on the airline’s Boeing 777-300ER fleet, where 25 aircraft have already been fitted with Starlink. Emirates said more than 650,000 passengers have used the service so far.

Installations on additional A380 units are expected to accelerate through 2026, with work to be carried out at Emirates Engineering facilities in Dubai.

The airline said the upgrade is part of a broader effort to enhance passenger experience, alongside ongoing cabin retrofits and crew training programs.
