FEU Institute of Technology (FEU Tech) has partnered with OpenAI to deploy artificial intelligence tools across its academic and administrative operations as part of its effort to become what it describes as an “AI-native” university.
Under the collaboration, FEU Tech will provide more than 14,000 students, faculty members, and staff access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu and Codex platforms.
The university said the tools will be integrated into learning, research, student support, administration, and decision-making processes.
The school plans to use AI-powered systems to assist with curriculum development, admissions, enrollment services, records management, human resources, analytics, and other operational functions.
According to FEU Tech, the goal is to automate routine tasks and allow faculty and staff to focus more on teaching, mentoring, and student support.
Benson T. Tan, senior executive director of FEU Tech, said the initiative is intended to position the institution as a leader in AI adoption within Philippine higher education.
“The opportunity here is leadership. We are not reacting to AI. We are defining how AI is used responsibly in Philippine higher education,” Tan said.
“By working closely with OpenAI, this collaboration allows us to provide institution-wide access to ChatGPT Edu — a secure, managed version designed for universities. That means students, faculty, leadership, and staff can use it responsibly within guardrails aligned to our policies.”
OpenAI managing director Oliver Jay said educational institutions play an important role in helping students and educators develop practical AI skills.
“FEU Tech is taking an ambitious and forward-looking step by embedding AI across learning, campus operations, and student outcomes. AI is advancing quickly, but many individuals still need better access to the skills and tools to use it confidently. Education plays a critical role in closing that gap and preparing people for the jobs and opportunities ahead,” Jay said.
Among the AI initiatives under development are an AI tutor based on course materials, an AI classroom environment, AI-driven skills assessments, student readiness evaluation tools, chatbots for student services, and analytics systems designed to identify learning gaps and academic risks.
The university also plans to incorporate AI-related competencies into engineering, computing, and multimedia programs, while offering workshops, hackathons, and training sessions in collaboration with OpenAI. Students may also be exposed to career pathways in the AI sector through the partnership.
FEU Tech said it will deploy Codex across the institution, making it among the first universities in the Philippines to implement the AI coding platform at scale.
