The number of information and communication establishments in the Philippines rose 8.8% to 2,454 in 2024 from 2,256 in 2022, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Final results of the 2024 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry showed that computer programming, consultancy, and related activities accounted for the largest share, with 812 establishments or 33.1% of the sector.
Radio broadcasting followed with 417 establishments or 17%, while other telecommunications activities had 310 establishments or 12.6%.
Nearly half of the establishments were located in Metro Manila, which accounted for 1,081 or 44.1% of the total. Central Visayas had 219 establishments, while Calabarzon recorded 174.
Employment in the sector increased at a slower pace, rising 1.8% to 172,389 workers in 2024 from 169,331 in 2022. Paid employees accounted for 172,081 or 99.8% of the workforce.
Computer programming, consultancy, and related activities employed 90,573 workers, representing 52.5% of the sector’s total employment.
Wired telecommunications activities employed 13,600 workers, while data processing, hosting, web portals, and related activities accounted for 12,705 employees.
Metro Manila remained the center of employment, with 136,262 workers or 79% of the sector’s workforce. Central Visayas accounted for 13,349 workers, while Calabarzon had 5,455.
Total compensation reached P183.87 billion in 2024. Average annual compensation increased 9.7% to P1.07 million per employee from P974,100 in 2022.
Software publishing recorded the highest average annual compensation among the industry groups at P2.42 million per employee.
Despite the increase in establishments and employment, the average workforce per establishment declined 6.7% to 70 workers in 2024 from 75 in 2022.
