PH Catholic schools hop on the cloud with Google deal

The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) has inked an agreement with Internet behemoth Google for free access to cloud-based applications and e-mail system.

Under the deal, CEAP?s 1,345 member-schools will get access to Google Apps for Education, a free suite of hosted email and collaboration applications exclusively for schools and universities.

Janet Yoon, head of Google Apps Supporting Program for the Philippines (GASP), said Google will provide the member-schools with their own domain name and trainings for their IT teams.

?Google will provide free deployment support, technical consulting, and training for schools interested in adopting Google apps for education as part of its strategy to develop accessible, reliable, and sustainable Internet ecosystem,? Yoon said.

The CEAP National Office said it will also organize a CEAP IT committee to oversee the rollout of the project with Google.

Initially, at least 10 CEAP member-schools will enlist with Google for training this month. The first batch of deployment will begin next school year 2013-2014. — Jimmyley I. Guzman, PIA-NCR
