As part of its effort to feel the pulse of the people and to keep abreast with current technology trends, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Civil-Military Operations School (AFP-CMOS) recently conducted the first-ever Social Media Management Training at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Information Officers from various AFP units from all over the Philippines comprised Class 01-14 during the seminar held on Jan. 28 to Feb. 5, 2014. The AFP-CMOS partnered with DWDD 1134 kHz Radio for the initiative.
BGen. Rolando G. Jungco, Commanding General of the Civil Relations Service-AFP, told graduates of the course: ?The training will help us improve our social media management system for the betterment of ourselves and our services toward a greater AFP. I challenge our graduates to make use of what they have learned to inspire others through social media.?
Maj. Jo-Ar Herrera, AFP-CMOS Commandant, said: ?The 5-day and 15-day practical application training was aimed at developing the skills of our Information Officers from AFP units on social media management and to help them realize the importance of social media in our organization.?
Marlon Magtira, Social Media Course Director, said: ?We were privileged to have a distinguished set of volunteer speakers who helped the participants in increasing their knowledge and enhancing their skills in managing their organization?s social media initiatives.?
Among those who shared their knowledge and expertise were Janettte Toral of DigitalFilipino.com, Melvin Calimag of Newsbytes.ph, Jing Garcia of InterAksyon.com ? TV5?s online news portal, Pocholo Gonzales of CreatiVoices and Voice of the Youth Radio, and Rafael Pedrajita, Ian Bacungan, and Ron Villagonzalo of Philippine Bloggers Network.
The seminar drew 31 participants from the AFP, Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Department of Transportation and Communicaton (DOTC), and Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO). It provided hands-on training, as well as best-practices and methodologies, on integrating social media in websites.
?The knowledge we have gained in the art of connection through social media will prepare us to share to whole world what our organizations have to offer,? said training participant Mr. Jonathan Maliwat of the DOTC Office of Transport Security.
?This training provided us extensive insights on how to optimize our online presence through social media,? said PSupt Celso Bael of the PNP Police Community Relations Group Operations Management Division.
