The Christmas-themed Home Alone was a worldwide hit in 1990. The movie’s lead character is a boy named Kevin McCallister, who was played by then-10-year-old Macaulay Culkin. The movie spawned sequels, but people loved the first installment best.
Over the years, Home Alone secured an exalted spot in global pop culture. In fact, it even inspired a Swiss company to create an anti-burglar gadget named Kevin.
Fast forward to 28 years later and Home Alone remains one of the staples in the lineup of holiday movies. The folks at Google took this idea and ran with it, so to speak.
Google launched its Christmas ad on December 19 and it relives some of the most memorable Home Alone scenes. They got Culkin, now 38, to star in it. In a span of three days, the ad has gotten over 18 million views on YouTube.
Google also uploaded a behind-the-scenes video on the making of the ad.
Just like the 1990 movie, this ad is a hit.
