Realme PH launches smartphone contenders in budget category

Smartphone manufacturer Realme Philippines has just launched its first devices touting a quad-camera setup to the market with a surprisingly competitive price tag.

As the successors of the Realme 3 and 3 Pro, the Realme 5 and 5 Pro both boast beefier batteries and powerful processors apart from an enhanced camera offering, fortifying its position as a gaming brand for Filipinos.

“We at Realme Philippines are thrilled to revolutionize the smartphone experience of the Filipinos by leading the leap to attainable quad-camera technology,” said Realme Philippines marketing director Austine Huang.

Huang shared that bringing the two devices to the local market puts an end to the notion that premium features are only reserved for flagship phones.

“Both these cutting-edge devices are a testament to our steadfast commitment of providing Filipinos, more specifically the youth, with the smartphone experience they deserve,” Huang noted.

The camera modules in the Pro version includes a 48MP IMX586 main lens with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and an f/1.8 aperture, a dedicated 2MP macro lens that can take images up to 4cm close, a wide-angle 8MP camera, and a portrait camera for enhanced bokeh effect. For taking selfies, the 16MP front camera is backed with AI beautification and HDR as well.

Inside the stock camera app are features like Nightscape that the manufacturer markets as able to take photos in extreme lowlight environments with good color reproduction and less noise.

Chroma Boost, meanwhile, stacks multiple images to increase the dynamic range of the images taken. The setup is also equipped with Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) which enables smoother videos produced when capturing up to 4K resolution in a maximum of 30 frames per second.

Running the device is the capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 platform AIE that can run some heavy titles with ease. Clocking at 2.3GHz, the SoC is partnered with an Adreno 616 GPU to improve graphics performance and energy efficiency by up to 35%.

The realme 5 Pro also arrives in ColorOS 6.0 on top of Android 9 (Pie) and a 4035mAh battery with VOOC 3.0 charging capabilities.

Meanwhile, the vanilla Realme 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 665 SoC clocking at 2.0Ghz, a toned down quad-camera setup, as well with a 5000mAh battery but no fast-charging.

It will be running the same ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9 and will be available in Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple color variants while the Pro version comes in Crystal Green and Sparkling Blue.

The realme 5 Pro 4GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB storage variants retails for P11,990 and P13,990 respectively, while the realme 5 comes in 3GB+32GB, 4GB+64GB, and 6GB+128GB versions priced at P6,990, P7,990, and P9,900 respectively.
