DTI unveils first fabrication lab in La Union

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has inaugurated its first fabrication laboratory in La Union.

DTI Region 1, through its provincial office in La Union, awarded  the P4.9 million Shared Service Facility (SSF) Project for Packaging and Labeling Printing Fabrication Laboratory to Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-North Luzon Campus.

The DTI said the project will pave the way to the development of public innovation through advanced technologies and facilities in the province.

The Scaling-Up Entrepreneurship, Education, Development and Agri-Tourism Through Fabrication Laboratory (SEEDA FABLAB) SSF Project will not only benefit the students of the university but also micro small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the  province and nearby areas.

“This facility will serve as a hub of innovation, collaboration and growth offering state of the art equipment, expert guidance and conducive environment for learning and development,” DTI Regional Operations Group undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona said.

DTI regional director Grace Falgui Baluyan said that the SSF mobilizes the competitiveness and productivity of organizations and institutions by providing modern machineries, exceptional tools and equipment and the necessary training programs.

The Fablab aims to contribute to the fast-pacing industry where ideas turn into possibilities and possibilities turn into realities.

Equipment that was turned over are print and cut large format printer, off-set printer, electric paper cutter, laminator, multifunction photo copier, direct to film printer, direct to garment printer with heat press, desktops, laser-cutter engraver, vertibal cabinet, slotted rack system, laminated working table and sewing machine.

The target beneficiaries are the DMMMSU-Sericulture Research and Development Institute, Silk Weaving Association, students and MSMEs.
