The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) has appointed IBM Philippines country general manager Leo L. Capinpin and Vivant Corporation president Emil Andre M. Garcia to its board of trustees.
Garcia will represent PBSP members in the Visayas and chair the organization’s Visayas Regional Committee. He succeeds Jose Antonio “Tonio” Y. Aboitiz, who represented Davao Light and Power Company and concluded an 18-year tenure on the board.
Capinpin, who has worked at IBM for more than 25 years, oversees the company’s business strategy, sales, and technical operations in the Philippines. His experience includes financial services and IT services involving hardware, software, and infrastructure technology.
IBM Philippines is a founding member of PBSP and has worked with the organization on education and workforce development programs. These include IBM SkillsBuild and P-TECH, which seek to expand training and career opportunities for young Filipinos.
Capinpin replaces Aileen Judan-Jiao, IBM Asean Technology Lifecycle Services leader, who served as an IBM representative on the PBSP board from 2018 to 2026. She also chaired its Human Resources and Retirement Committee.
Garcia is president of both Vivant Corporation and Vivant Energy Corporation. The Cebu-based holding company has investments in energy and water, while its energy subsidiary operates across conventional and renewable energy generation, power distribution, and retail electricity.
Vivant has been a PBSP member since 2009 and has partnered with the organization on reforestation projects in Cebu.
During his term, Aboitiz chaired PBSP’s Visayas Regional Committee and Audit and Risk Management Committee. He also supported disaster-relief efforts and the Olango Challenge, an annual open-water swimming event that raised funds for the construction of schools on Olango Island.
The Aboitiz Group, another founding PBSP member, has also participated in environmental projects such as the Aboitiz A-Park and rehabilitation work at the Buhisan Watershed Forest Reserve in Cebu.
