SG firm invests P180 million in Batangas plant for electronics, medical parts

Singapore-based manufacturer MNEX is investing P180 million in a Batangas plant that will produce precision-molded components for consumer electronics, medical devices, and industrial products, with production targeted to start in early 2027.

The facility, located at the Light Industry and Science Park III–Special Economic Zone in Santo Tomas, will introduce micro-molding technology to the Philippines.

The technology enables the production of small, precision-engineered plastic components used in electronic and medical equipment.

The plant is MNEX’s first manufacturing investment in the Philippines. Renovation is underway, according to the company.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) secretary Cristina A. Roque met with MNEX CEO Cindy Goh-Cabral on Oct. 10 on the sidelines of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s visit to Singapore to discuss the facility’s progress and operational requirements.

“MNEX’s advanced precision manufacturing facility significantly strengthens our domestic industrial supply chain for global electronics and medical device markets. DTI, through PEZA is fully committed to providing seamless operational facilitation to ensure this facility comes online by early 2027 and serves as a strong anchor for the company’s regional expansion,” Roque said.

MNEX’s manufacturing capabilities include precision tooling, plastic injection molding, metal machining, automated assembly, and product development. The company also uses automation and digital systems in its production processes.

Beyond manufacturing, MNEX expressed interest in establishing a digital team in the Philippines to support its manufacturing systems, potentially creating technical jobs related to industrial digitalization.

The company raised concerns about electricity costs and land ownership. Roque cited available measures for economic zone locators, including enhanced deductions on power costs, industrial land leases of up to 99 years, and full foreign ownership of renewable energy projects such as rooftop solar installations.

“We are focused on delivering a competitive business ecosystem — backed by CREATE MORE incentives, streamlined green lanes, and strong cost-mitigation measures. Our objective is to provide investors like MNEX with operational certainty, accelerating time-to-market while creating high-value technical jobs for Filipinos and solidifying the Philippines’ position as a core pillar in global manufacturing supply chains,” Roque added.

MNEX is a unit of Meiban Group, a Singapore-headquartered, family-owned precision plastics and electronics manufacturer founded in 1986.

The project follows a PEZA investment mission to Singapore in August 2026, when director general Tereso Panga and Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Singapore commercial counsellor Carla Grepo discussed MNEX’s long-term expansion plans.

The DTI and PEZA are assisting the company in completing the facility and evaluating support for potential future investments.
