New PH dating site puts focus on verification, anti-scam tools

A new online dating platform, FilipinaMeet, has entered the Philippine market, positioning itself as a safety-focused alternative to mainstream dating apps amid persistent concerns about scams and fake profiles.

The platform, created by trial lawyer Samantha Cefali and AI engineer Steven Cefali, officially launched on Jan. 1, 2026 and has recorded more than 20,000 signups, according to its founders. It is currently accessible through its website, with mobile applications planned in future updates.

FilipinaMeet is designed primarily for Filipina users while remaining open to all genders, including members of the LGBTQ+ community.

The founders said the platform was developed to address issues they observed in existing dating services, including fraudulent accounts, low-quality interactions, and interface designs that prioritize rapid swiping over deeper engagement.

Unlike swipe-based systems, the site allows users to browse multiple profiles at their own pace, encouraging longer conversations and more deliberate matching.

A central feature of the platform is its emphasis on identity verification and moderation. The company said profiles and photos undergo manual review, while artificial-intelligence tools are used to detect suspicious activity, scams, and inappropriate behavior.

It also claims to operate without advertising and does not share user data with third parties.

The founders cited the broader cybercrime environment in the Philippines as a factor behind the platform’s development, noting reports of thousands of cybercrime complaints and widespread exposure to scams.

The service also includes international connectivity features, allowing users to interact across countries, as well as tools such as guided message prompts intended to improve response rates and encourage more meaningful exchanges.

“FilipinaMeet responds to concerns about outdated designs, fake profiles, and the prevalence of scammers that particularly affect the large single population in the Philippines,” the founders said.

The company said it is exploring additional features, including mobile apps and curated events for members, as it expands operations.
