Study: Pinoy parents upbeat on AI, seek to close knowledge gap

Filipino parents are largely optimistic about artificial intelligence (AI), but many acknowledge a need to better understand the technology as their children increasingly adopt it, according to a survey by Google and YouGov.

The study found that 89% of Filipino parents believe online learning tools have made it easier for their children to access a wider range of educational resources — one of the highest levels of optimism recorded in the Asia-Pacific region.

However, the survey also points to a knowledge gap within households. About 19% of parents said their children know more about AI than they do, suggesting that younger users are driving adoption of the technology at home.

Despite this, most parents expressed confidence in guiding their children. Around 71% said they feel capable of teaching responsible AI use, while 57% are hopeful that learning AI today will prepare their children for an “AI-first” future. Nearly half, or 46%, said they want to learn more about the technology themselves.

The findings highlight a mix of optimism and caution among Filipino families as AI tools become more widely used in education and daily life.

“To help families navigate this new era, here are key tips for staying safe and smart online,” Google said.

The company advised parents to encourage children to verify information generated by AI, think critically when using such tools, and identify synthetic or AI-generated content using available technologies. It also urged families to explore AI tools together to better understand their capabilities and limitations.
