The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has partnered with VERA Files to expand efforts against fake news and online scams on social media.
The CICC said the agreement aligns with the administration’s push to intensify responses to disinformation and cyber-related offenses, which authorities say contribute to public confusion, fear, and financial harm.
Under the partnership, VERA Files will act as a fact-checking partner for the CICC’s nationwide campaign against misleading and false content, particularly posts linked to online criminal activity. The media group will designate a focal person to handle urgent verification requests referred by the CICC.
For its part, the CICC said it will enhance its round-the-clock monitoring of social media platforms to identify content with potential cyber threat links and forward these for verification. Both parties will also conduct joint monitoring of disinformation and scams, and develop countermeasures.
The collaboration will also include advocacy activities such as workshops and public forums aimed at raising awareness on disinformation, fraud, and online manipulation, and promoting responsible online behavior.
CICC executive director Renato “Aboy” Paraiso underscored the role of public participation in addressing online threats.
“Our message for 2026 is clear: Active cooperation and immediate reporting are our best weapons. Disinformation thrives when left unchallenged,” said Paraiso.
The CICC urged the public to verify information before sharing and to report suspected fake news or malicious content through its hotline 1326 or official social media channels.
“We call on every Filipino to report, verify, and refuse to amplify false content,” he added.
